Ironic moments are all around us, just waiting to be captured on film. We collected some of the funniest ironic moments that can be found in our everyday lives.
The term “irony” stems from a Greek word, which means “simulated ignorance”, according to the Oxford English Dictionary. Irony is used in three different ways: dramatic, verbal and situational. Dramatic irony is present in story-telling forms like cinema, books and plays, where at least one character is not aware of something that everyone else, including the viewer/reader, knows. Verbal irony is saying something when you actually mean the opposite. It is widespread in daily, familiar conversations.
And, finally, there is situational irony, which this post is all about. Situational irony is comparatively modern and generally means some form of literal opposition, comical disparity or contrast between the aims or intentions behind an action and the actual result.
Here are some of the funniest ironic moments we gathered.
