Nobody would care about the earth shattering, disaster striking or any other calamity. People would be blind to beggars on the street, hungry children running to find pieces of food, or sick and poor giving up on life on the streets; but the sight of a naked Parisian model definitely caught pedestrians by surprise.
The surprise on the street seeing the naked Parisian model
Fashion runways are full of skinny chicks in short skirts and low cut, backless dresses so it came as no shock to me when I was roaming the streets of Paris in the textiles area, close to Boulevard Saint-Germain, that I happened upon a window with a pretty girl wearing what appeared to be nothing but paint. I was probably not surprised for I was in Paris, the city of love, where art and culture exceeds all bounds and the people are open to all sorts of ideas and happenings. A naked Parisian model as a manikin would not have been much of a surprise, but it sure was something that made people stop to look by as to what was really the case. Probably, this is something no one can have enough of.
The publicity stunt
As part of an advertising campaign for Brochier textiles, a Parisian model was spray painted a design that mirrored the fabrics hanging behind her. It allowed her to blend in with the background and seem manikin-like. She stood incredibly still for periods of time, long enough so that the current group of tourists got tired of the scene and moved away, allowing the next unsuspecting passers-by to stumble upon her display and get a mini-shock when she moved. It was a brilliant PR stunt because virtually no one passed by without at least a double-take. The woman did an incredible job at keeping herself still while pedestrians gazed upon to decipher the real facts. People were extremely curious as to what was happening and this is why the PR stunt was so successful. It made people intrigued about the entire concept and find out what it really was.
It was cool to watch the artist perform some touch-ups. Her presence confirmed, for those of us who caught her in action, that while it appeared at first glance she was undressed, she actually wore seamless undergarments. They were spray painted in the same design which gave the illusion that she was naked. The gorgeous Parisian model waved to onlookers and smiled brilliantly knowing how captivating and humorous her assignment was to the pedestrians. Brochier definitely got their money’s worth that day. The exposure (pun intended) made Brochier a household name that day for many Parisians and tourists alike. It pulled off as people got the message and the publicity went really well.
